Why does traffic bunch up so fast in Maiduguri now?

Even relatively short trips in Maiduguri can suddenly turn slow when several busy junctions clog at once. More tricycles, minibuses and roadside activity all seem to contribute. Which route has become noticeably harder to trust for on time arrival?
